Why LG Future exists

Councils were buying capability support in pieces. The sector needed it joined up.

Reform, amalgamation, AI, rates pressure and rising community expectation are arriving together, and every one of them lands on the workforce. Councils were solving that with a leadership provider here, a restructure consultant there, an assessment tool somewhere else, and no single view of capability across any of it.

LG Future brings operating model and organisation design, change and transition planning, optimised operations, leadership development, skills development and talent management into one practice, delivered by people who have spent their careers inside the sector rather than passing through it. We know what a long-term plan cycle does to a workforce plan, and we know the difference between a council of 90 people and a council of 900.

One relationship, one capability picture, seven services that actually talk to each other.

Capability Group

Capability Group has spent four decades helping New Zealand organisations build the leadership, structures and skills they need. In local government that means leadership programmes from Northland to Southland, organisation design through reform, and the LG Skills Framework built for the sector.

Added Insight

Added Insight is the organisational psychology practice alongside it. Registered psychologists who design and run the assessment, selection and talent work: fair, evidence-based, and useful to the person being assessed as well as the council doing the assessing. Talent Potential is its succession framework.

LSI Consulting

LSI Consulting is the operational strategy practice, established in 1989 and a New Zealand Government procurement panel provider. It runs on one idea: strategy only creates value when it is implemented well. Diagnose, design, deliver, so councils operate with greater clarity, control and confidence.

How we work with councils

01

We start with your context

Long-term plan cycle, elected member expectations, what your last restructure did to trust. No programme lands well without it.

02

We build capability you keep

Frameworks, tools and internal facilitators stay with your team. The goal is that you need us less each year.

03

We share across the sector

What works in one council usually works in twelve. Our insights, frameworks and benchmarks are open to the sector.
